India has been participating in all the Summer Paralympic Games since 1968. It has also made the country proud by participating in the next Olympics, which took place after the Olympics in Brazil this year.
In the post-1972 Olympics, India's Muralikant Petkar won the first gold medal in the 50m freestyle with a time of 37.33 seconds. He also won bronze medals at the Olympics in discus and javelin. Bhimrao helped India win the silver medal in the javelin race in the 37th round.
India did not enjoy much success in the semi-finals at the next Olympics in Seoul in 1988. In the 2004 Athens Olympics, India's Devendra Jhajharia won the gold medal in javelin, and his teammate Rajinder Singh won the bronze medal in weightlifting. He won a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics in London.
